First shed question?

is it ok to pull off the shed that remains on her? She still has quite a bit on her lower half. We have left her alone all day but I would like to help her if I can.

Just be careful- dampen her first, some put snake in very damp towel & pillowcase to let them do it themselves. Personally I usually mist & manually help, but you
don't want to damage her skin by pulling off anything that doesn't come off easily. Sometimes a shallow soak is needed (for shed that's really stuck-on) but that can
be overly stressful for a new snake. When you are gentle with snakes, they mostly seem to realize you're helping...it's no fun for them to get stuck in their old shed.
You're on the way to being a very good snake-owner... (While some might just raise the humidity of her cage & wait for the snake to shed by herself, the extra
time usually just means it gets dryer & even more stuck on, especially since it sounds like the humidity was too low before.)

You can't just pull it off ..even gently as there's a good one part will hurt them and provoke a bite ..

I'd soak a rough textured bath towel and let the snake slither inside it for five minutes whilst you apply very gentle pressure . When it's head pops out simply cover it with the excess towel again and continue

We tried this method and it seemed to stress her out. She didnt like the towel on her at all! So we let her be. Since she ate she wasnt that stressed

Another way is to provide a "humid hide" with a lot of well-soaked sphagnum moss inside it. But she still might miss some pieces, assuming she uses it.

Just to clarify: you asked earlier if it's ok to feed her now that she's shed, & I said yes...I was assuming that she shed COMPLETELY. I don't count it as having
shed if there's still pieces that need to be worked off...because any handling you do to help her remove them should only be done BEFORE you feed her, and allow
at least a day in between for best results. Since she really hasn't finished her shed, I would NOT feed her tonight...there's no rush, better she finish the shed.
(as you probably know, handling after a meal is a bad practice & often self-punishing...it often causes the snake to barf up it's meal)

And just to clarify, you're talking about a young Dumeril's boa, am I right? because it's posted in the wrong forum, under ball pythons, though I don't think our
answers so far would be any different, it's just that other owners of Dumerils may not find this thread. You could always ask a moderator to move it.
