you don't get to like the animals more than the laws protecting them. he is selfish and i agree, i hope he gets the book thrown at him.
tho, in a situation like this, i hope he doesn't do time behind bars. that won't help anyone. i hope he goes through some type of conservation course and gets a hefty fine, and also barred from owning any animals for X amount of time.

It makes me wonder. This guy was a teacher so that means it would have been fairly easy for him to get the permit to have them in new York.
While it does not excuse what he did, new York laws really do suck when it comes to a lot of things. While there is a way to get permits to own vemnous reptiles and the big pythons, its rare that they grant them. Even if the person has the skill an know how to take care of them.
For all that we know this guy has the skill an know how to correctly care for them and may have been taking very good care of them. But then again it's possible that he didn't know what he was doing either. But in the end what he did was still illegal and makes the hobby look bad.

I've never applied, no interest in hots, nor am I qualified, but here in MA I think it's pretty difficult to get permits to keep hots. Even for teachers I'm guessing they'd have to jump through hoops. And I could be mistaken, but I don't think they can be kept in your home. I think they have to be kept at secure research facilities.

I can relate. People are scary! The subclass of "stupid" even more scary.
