Bioactive Vivarium for Burrowing!

Hey Spring&Iso, My snake was born August 2017...I started him in bioactive during Thanksgiving Nov 2017...

As far as burrowing goes I had set up 3 different cork flats at an angle for him to use as hides/caverns...he doesn't burrow in the sense of straight line tubes under the soil like a gopher would do...Its more like his coiling activity in the hides slowly creates a deeper depression in the soil over time for him to feel safe and secure in... I spray the inside of one of the hides periodically so he can use it as a humid hide, the other ones are pretty dry inside...

I don't think he wants to have both in together I think the rats are a starter for the bioactive. I can see the concern for this but I do agree with him that in the wild this is how they would find a hide. As for rats full time in a bioactive enclosure I do think this is a brilliant idea, again at the end of the day we have taken all animals out of there natural environment.

Rats produce too much waste, it would have to be a giant enclosure to keep up with the manure!

Yes but still like my bioactive Viv for my BP every so often I have to remove her waste (admittedly not that often for a BP). Also rats will dedicate an area for there waste when kept in small spaces and from keeping pets rats I know there poo is alot easier to pick up.

I never have to remove any more than urates when I clean my vivs, and that is when he makes it onto a rock or branch. in fact I used to be able to smell it as soon as you enter the room when he dueced in the tank. now I can't smell it with my face over the screen tops. bioactive has been the favorite move Ive made so far, other than the herpstat 6 and mistkings. the most I normally do now is stir whatever is left after a couple days in to the substrate.

I think depth, plant life, the rain(watering) cycle, and the cuc are also probably important variables. just like a real environment, it is more than just space that makes it tick.
