That's probably because they are one of the most boring wild snakes in existence from a life history point of view. They hide in rodent holes, are rarely seen even by locals, only come out at night, and once a year the males seek out females in said holes and breed.... and then the females lay eggs.... still underground this whole time. The babies then emerge.... only to go find another rodent hole to live in.
