It really depends on the thread. If someone asked a question, and it was answered YEARS ago. There is no need to add another answer. I see this A LOT. Sometimes I will see a title with like 15 pages at the top of list and I start reading and it gets heated and I get heated and then I wanna reply and then I realize it is from YEARS ago and someone just replied to it as if it were posted yesterday. Threads that are meant to updated time to time are fine. Threads that died without a conclusion and someone asks "Hey whatever happened to this?" are OK.
The short of it is, look at the date of the last post in a thread before you post yourself. Make sure it is appropriate.
