Quail chicks for Rainbow?

I work hard in her conditioning now. She is removed for handling and I have someone else place food in her enclosure. When she returns to it she looks for food now even on days I don't feed. Not sure if I'd the right way when she is older but works great for now.

You remove her, introduce food, then put her back? I would advise against that. Just feed her in the enclosure and hook/tap train her. Touch her with a hook every time you go in to the cage and are not feeding her. She’ll learn that he hook means no food and will turn off her feeding response. Don’t want or be holding a 13’+ snake that has learned that when she’s being put back in her cage that there could be food involved

Wha? You remove the snake when you are going to feed it and then have someone put food in the cage and then put the snake back in??!! You sir are brave. My snakes smell food from a mile away and they all become alert. I usually cant mess with them for a few hours after feeding is done and the smells have gone away. Trust me, as much as i like Caesar and with how much he loves attention and is a lush and how much the boas are lushes, when it comes feeding time, they do a 180 in personality and literally ARE dangerous and i dont mess with them. The little ones I'm more relaxed with as they are only about 2-3 feet so they cant hurt me unless they bite my eye or something lol.

For real dude. This is why I feed Phyllis and Gerald with 40” tongs. They are STUPIDLY foody. When Phyllis misses she can come close to 3’ out of the cage and it’s no joke. I open her door with a hook, rodent on tongs in the other hand and then have to go two hands on the tongs and brace for impact. It’s seriously impressive how hard and fast she strikes. Shakes the whole cage stack.
And Gerald just lunge/flails with his mouth open in the direction of anything that smells like rodents hahah. Spring loaded muscle with teeth

Hahahaha, Gerald is exactly how Caesar used to be. He would just blindly do the Alien facehugger sucking thing on the glass like in Aliens 2 in the air. He's not as bad now but yeah, i have to brace for impact. Half the time i lose the tongs because he will grab the food by the side or something and wrap the tongs with the food haha. I need to invest in something like the 40 inch tongs you are talking about. I got like 24 inch big BBQ tongs but man, it's always an adventure getting my hands that close to an open door with food next to it.

Welcome to retics. Wait until she gets big and does that. It's quite a sight seeing Caesar or Rosey shoot out for food. Honestly, I'm not that thrilled about feeding day for the big ones as its kind of stressful haha. I spend most of the time trying to slowly slide the door open opposite the side they are on and then shove the food in there on big BBQ tongs haha. I have had Caesar literally shoot out about 2 feet with mouth open out an open door to get a guinea pig that i hadnt even put in yet. I jumped back, fell over a chair but still had the tongs in my hand with the guinea pig on the end of it lol.

The little ones are so cute to feed as they are like a mini version of the big guys but i can hold the rat tail and basically hold a little snake ball in the air haha.....until the mouse/rat tail skin slides off.

Oh and i almost had Vicky get me 2 times in a row now. She is 6 feet. She has been extra hungry the past couple months and the second a door is slid open if she smells food and she is lunging lol. She is in shed now which might explain it. Cant wait to see her after shed.

It's amazing how they can go from lazy lounge snakes that are puppy dog tame to a psycho open mouth lunging maniac in a second lol.

I found a supplier local that had quail chicks. It is $12 for a dozen. Would it be good to offer Rainbow every now and then?

I’m subscribed to a lot of fishing forums and with trout season right around the corner when the alert” feeding quail chicks to rainbow” came up on my phone. I got super excited like someone has found the new hot fishing lure. Glad I looked at the post first I’d have felt real dumb being the only guy on the creek with baby quails in my bait bucket

Hmmmmm... seeing a quail egg that someone has carefully inserted a hook and the yoke leaking out slowly while in the water. Don't think you will attract trout though. Try corn instead.

All this talk of food crazy snakes, reminds me of a mangrove snake I had when I was young, the thing was about 6ft long and had a 5ft reach when it struck.... I used to use a garbage can lid as a riot shield when I Fed it rats from one of those grippy reaching sticks you can use to get stuff off upper shelves. I still remember the metal clang of it smacking against the shield on the days when it wanted to kill me more than it wanted food.
