If you count crawling on top of the hides as "room to move around" then I can see where you're coming from. Two large hides (the size of an inverted litter box) and a large dish gives you about 12"x12" of remaining floorspace. RBI jumbos as 20"x14"x6"....use two of them in a 4x2 animal plastics and youve got less than 2'x2' of floorspace.....then subtact your large water dish......

Muscle tone in snakes (like any other animal) is gained through activity...climbing for example. I fail to see how you would be getting muscle tone by using a small hide. There's an old trick where people use a 6ft step ladder for building muscle tone in large boas actually.
I have her in a 2’ tall enclosure, so she can also go over the hides. When I get my 6’ enclosures fixed back up and running, she’ll go into one of my 6’ enclosures instead, which can easily hold 3 of her jumbo RBI hides. She is 7’ and can fit inside a jumbo RBI without so much as lifting a corner off the ground, and her water dish is bigger than either of her hides.

I don’t like her being in such a small enclosure but my wooden enclosures are currently drying out on the sidewalk after a pipe bursted in the building we had them in.

She’s getting muscle tone because she has to actively to coil up tight enough to fit in the hide. I have other pictures of her actually inside her hide, but they’re on my computer.

As you can see, she doesn’t come close to taking up 1/2 the floor space on her own. She is definitely 7’, maybe 7.5’, 10-13 lbs. There isn’t a *whole* lot of room to spare, but she can easily move around, and she’ll go into one of the 6’ enclosures when they’re ready.

Still no luck getting ahold of Pro-Products, can I use my CHE with the AP cage when it gets here or would I need a different heat source?

Where can you get frozen rats?

If you haven’t got a response from Pro Products, try picking up an RBI panel. I don’t have a PP panel to compare, but the RBI definitely still gets the job done. I’ve had my 120 watts for a good 4+ years now, and my 80 watts for 2-3 and they’re all going strong.

If you’d prefer the CHE, drill a hole just large enough for the wire to get through and put the naked bulb inside a wire mesh cage and have it inside the enclosure. That way, less humidity escapes, and more heat is held inside the enclosure. I have wire mesh that are maybe an inch away from the bulb on all sides, and I can grab the cage and hold it for however long I want. It’s homemade, though, so smoothing out the sharp pieces was a chore but it’s highly doubtful it will burn my snakes.

Sadly RBI is all out of the wattage that I would need. I called to ask when they would be back in stock but didn't get a reply so I left a message.

Yeah it seems they’re out of most sizes right now...weird. I would set up the CHE the way I recommended, and it should be fine.

It’s weird no one is answering your questions, though, doesn’t leave you with many options huh?

I love when the all the info I typed in earlier posts on this thread that took a considerable amount of time to type and research is simply reguritated to the "T". Good luck cloud you have this covered. Unbelievable.Much appreciated.....

The only other company that comes to mind for Radiant Heat Panels is Reptile Basics. However, they are listing their heat panels as "out of stock"....you would need the 80 watt unit from them. I would stick with Pro-Products personally, no one ever complains about them and Bob will talk you through exactly what you need....but probably a 65 watt unit for a T8.

I just got a Caye Caulker (caye caulker, caulker caye, cay caulker caulker cay, ive always gone with caye caulker but ive seen it spelled different ways) last night and got everything set up, but I tend to worry about every little thing so I wanted to ask a few questions and get some general information.

    1. What should hot side temps and humidity be, I was told to keep the hot side at 88 to 90 and the humidity between 60 and 70 but just wanted to hear from people that keep them.

    2. What are some good ways to keep humidity up. My humidity keeps falling to 30 which I know is too low and when I spray it goes to 81 but falls pretty fast. I have a screen top with a towel over it right now. I bought some Sphagnum moss, what is the best way to use it?

    3. I was told that a 40 gallon tank was all I needed for an adult as long as we got him out multiple times a week and that all I needed to get the correct temp would be a 150 watt ceramic heat emitter, but the temp on the hot side is staying at 81, should I get a UTH?

Thank you all for any advise you can give me and I hope any information that I get will allow me to help someone else in the future.

(I also need help naming him)
Hey Jordan - Sorry it's taken so long to reply but I've been on vacation and not checking the forum.

I actually own a Russo/Siegel Caulkers Cay (yes, there are many ways of saying it LOL) I got from TJ Blevins and she lives comfortably in an AP T10 with 2"-4" of Reptile Prime coco husk bedding, a single hide, a jungle gym I made from PVC because they are semi-arboreal snakes, a H2O bowl big enough for her to soak in, and heated with a Pro Products RHP (you call Bob, give him the details of your room and snake and he'll hook you up), controlled by a Herstat4. I monitor temp and humidity with a Xikar thermometer/hygrometer (they are the industry leader in temp/humidity monitoring for cigars).

Your "hot" side temps between 90-92, "warm" side between 75-80, and keep your humidity between 60%-80% (honestly mine hovers around 64-74 most of the time and I just bump it when she's in blue). I have the Herpstat probe in the middle of the enclosure 3" above the bedding and set to 86 and it's fine.

    I document my temps/humidity's 3 times a day as I'm a little OCD.

I got her at 8 months a year ago March 8th, and she is doing very well; eats, sheds, never strikes at me, easy to handle, and is just a pleasure to own - she even burrows occasionally. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me....I have several pictures of her in my Gallery you can check out....Good luck, you'll be happy with yours if you take care of it properly.
