Petco selling baby green tree pythons

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Petco can barely keep BPs alive, not sure how they will keep a GTP alive.....and they gave it a hide......

Entry level species is one thing and even that it's often a fail but GTP, wonder when they are gonna start selling retics?

I agree I have always loved GTP but have no where near the experience. Someday though....

I felt the same way but after getting Pat, it really hasnt been that hard to care for him. I might have gotten lucky like beginners luck but let's knock on wood anyways. I have had boas and BPs as well as Monitors, iguanas and all sorts of other reptiles and amphibians in the past though but really, all these people who say GTPs, BCC and retics are hard to care for, i have to kind of disagree. They really dont seem any more demanding than my other pets were.

There's a PetCo in my town, along with two locally-owned pet stores. Sadly, the locally-owned pet stores keep their reptiles in even worse conditions than PetCo, if you can believe that.

In one, I saw two leopard geckos in the same small tank, with absolutely no lighting or CHE or heatmat. I couldn't believe my eyes. I DID look thoroughly on the bottom of the tank for any signs of a heatmat--any wires behind the cage, anything. The glass tank was flush with the bottom and there were no wires and no overhead heat for the geckos. The two geckos inside looked absolutely close to death, with their legs and tails very very thin. I wanted to cry. There were some crickets hopping in the tank with them.

In the other one, I saw a ball python that looked only a little bigger than a hatchling, and it was incredibly skinny. There was a live mouse fuzzy in front of it.

As much as I hate PetCo, I've actually found that--in my town--it's the most humane of the three when it comes to its reptile care.

You would be putting me out of a job. I also take very good care of my animals.

Are you management at PetCo? I've read that it's store policy to feed their ball pythons mouse pinkies; is that true at your store?

Also, WHY do no pet stores ever have proper humidity for their balls? Does PetCo enforce humidity requirements? Most pet stores just use those glass tanks with mesh lids.

There's actually one PetCo in my area that has perfect humidity for each of their reptile species, all the reptiles look healthy, and the setups are spotless. I can only assume that it's that the store lucked into a knowledgeable employee for that particular reptile section and it's mostly luck of the draw.

My local Petco had a GTP a while back, was there probably 3-4 weeks and it died. Surprise surprise. They gave it a half log hide, a small plant, no perch or anything. I suggested that arboreal snakes need something to climb on. They told me they were told how to set it up and weren't allowed to change it or add anything. So sad.

Corporate Morons, they need to hire actual reptile experts that do their research and have experience.

What. Petsmart feeds pinkies! Mine are all on adult mice. One weighs 215, 202 and 220g. My cornies are on fuzzies now weighing on the 30g range. All my reptiles are fed correctly, changed daily and taken care of. No it is not our policy to feed them pinkies.
