Petco selling baby green tree pythons

Stop at petco for some moss and low and behold baby green tree python in the exact same setup as their ball pythons. He looked in bad shape(sorry no pic) one hide one small branch and zero humidity. Wish I still worked in the oilfield and made money I would have snagged him( I kno don’t buy from them) but such a shame for such a beautiful snake to be in such a bad situation.

It's so hard not to when you see an animal is such terrible housing conditions. I bought one of my arboreal tarantulas when, like the snake you found, I found it set up terrestrially. They didn't even know what arboreal meant and claimed that the terrestrial set up was perfect for an avicularia.

I mean, yeah, I saved the animal from dying in the shop or being purchased by someone who would take the pet store advice - but we all know in the end they will just replace with another one. I just don't go to big name pet stores anymore. The locally owned shops do a great job housing their amphibians and reptiles. The inverts do need more substrate than they are provided with though.

I didn't know we sold GTB. I would call corporate and tell them.

That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

The sadness I feel right now is immeasurable. If I had the power to shut down ever Petco I would in a heart beat.

I think so many of us like to go to pet stores, it’s a shame how many reptiles Ive seen in horrible conditions. I’ve seen one for sale by my petco (GTP). Set up was horrible. They just want to sell as much as they can. It’s a shame, it really is. But I could never buy an animal from them.

i dont wanna buy anything from them but its alittle hard when the only other reptile pet store near you is Petsmart, i drive all the way to san jose. between the two i would rather go to petsmart than petco... they care just alittle more than petco... a little, they at least have (the one i went to) had perfect temps and humidity the enclosures might have been small but at least theres more in there besides one hide and a water bowl. i would rather not give my money to either of them tho

Im in the same boat. There are no pet stores besides those two. So for quick supplies I don’t have a choice. I buy my frozen mice from there for now until it makes sense to order in bulk.

You would be putting me out of a job. I also take very good care of my animals.
