Rack temps?
Hi. I recently set up a DIY rack and got my tubs to 90 degrees using heat mate and thermostat but when i put paper in the tub the temp dropped to 85 degrees, should i increase the temp to make it 90 degrees on the paper or leave it alone? I used a laser temp gun for testing. Also i put a hide on the hot end and the temp in the hide is hotter than everywhere else so if i raise the temps the hot hide will be very hot.
Thanks for your time and help.
Neil.

It is taped onto the heat mat using foil tape.

the paper is probably dispersing the heat above the heat mat. i'd increase the temperature on the thermostat and monitor the temperature at the BOTTOM of the tub until you've hit your mark. for example: my rack is set to 95° F to achieve a 90° F hot spot.

My heat mat is under the tub, would the paper have the same affect?

I thought you were thinking my heat mat was inside the tub lol. Sorry for my confusion lol
If i take the paper out the tub it will go back to 90, so are you saying i should raise the temp till my laser pointing at the paper is 90 degrees? What about my hot hide being very hot? It would be about 95 plus.

when you're dialing in a hot spot, you need to be measuring the temp at the ABSOLUTE BOTTOM of the inside of the tub. the snake WILL get below the paper if they need the extra heat. and where are you measuring the temps that you're getting 95°+ F?

Basically i think what im asking is should i take the temp reading from the paper not the tub? Ie point the laser temp gun at the paper above the heat mat area till it reaches 90 degrees.
Thanks for your help.

no, below the paper. you need to regulate the absolute hottest part of the tub your snake can touch, which is over the hot spot BELOW the paper.
and it's my pleasure.
