Injury on head
Hi all,
I noticed today that Wanda has a injury on her head; it looks like her nose is dry and a scale has fallen off possibly. Her humidity has been a bit low at the moment (Something I'm struggling with in the whole house) and sits at 45-50%. Temps are 25c (77f) ambient and 32c (90f) hot spot, heated with a CHE. There isn't anything sharp in her viv that I can see. The injury itself isn't bloody, but it looks pretty bad. Any idea what it could be, and what I could do to help it heal?
(I'm sorry about the size of the photo, but I wanted to show it as best as I could)

Could he be shedding possibly? Cloudy eyes, faded colors, pinkish belly, etc? That humidity is terribly low, and if he is shedding then you'll have some trouble with it. Look on here for tips to improve humidity, which might include covering your tank or adding moss. Also make sure he has plenty of clean water to drink or soak in so he doesn't get dehydrated while you sort that out.

Definitely not shedding, she shed perfectly in one piece just last week. I probably should have put that up above whoops.

that does look pretty bad. not life-threatening, but definitely a rough one. i almost feel like i've seen this type of injury before but i can't seem to recall. i'll try some google-fu.
are you positive there's nothing she could hurt herself on? i've thought the same thing only to find Yellow with a huge red mark on his face and no clue what happened, but he's had more injuries than i care to admit; i think we're at 4 or 5 injuries.
TBH i'm not sure what course of action you should take. i'd keep an eye on it and if it gets even slightly worse i'd take her to the vet.

Congratulations you have stuck shed on your ball python's face. Give your snake a soak and I bet you will be surprised how much better they look. Been there done that had a freak out then magically soaked the "scar" away

Re: Injury on head
Hi,
Do you feed live?
Don't be too surprised if your snake goes into a shed cycle fairly quickly - it's part of their healing mechanism.

Re: Injury on head
I have the same problem with my younger ball python and people on here kept saying it was stuck shed but it’s more of a scab not shed and I’m thinking it’s from rubbing the same spot continuously if you look it up on google there are similar pictures

Whilst her nose is very dry, I really dont' think it's stuck shed because as I said she had a perfect shed just a week ago. I don't feed live, so it's not an attack from prey either. She must just be rubbing her nose on something, enough to rub it raw: possibly from the dry skin? I'll give her a bath and do a complete go over of her viv to see if there's anything sharp and get back to you all

I’m in the same boat as you lol I also bumped the humidity up and have soaked her a couple of times and it does seem to help. When your snake sheds it may open up the spot but I guess it’s part of the healing process. I’ve also put Neosporin on her after soaking her.

My albino boa last year was starting to out grow his iris tub and started developing a open bruise exactly where wanda's wound is. Cause he was trying get out. Luckily I been had his new 3 foot boaphile ready to go and didn't have to wait a month or more cause boaphiles shipping times can be pretty bad.
But again if she's rubbing on something i'd change it asap. And she'll just heal over time by her self.
