    Honestly because it is a small area I would just clean it and make sure it's stays clean (So replace your substrate to newspaper or better paper towel)

    Neosporin will not be necessary in this case, you can apply it once but I would not do it more than that. While it is a great anti-bacterial it is also oil based and prolonged used will listen scales and make them fall off.
