hello, hello snake peeps.

My name is Billy or Bill (or Ax) I'm from Emerald City (aka Seattle) where I currently work as a secretary. I've always been fascinated by snakes (and dinosaurs) since I was a kid. My interest in getting a snake happened the other day when I decided to stroll a local pet shop after lunch where I saw some cool snakes and saw that they were more affordable then I had thought. It was on my mind the rest of the day, so I decided to internet research ball pythons and watched a couple vids online.

So here I am today, setting up a terrarium. I hope to have my own ball python within the week. Also I look forward to learning about ball pythons and snakes here on the forum and having fun. Thanks for reading.

hello all,

i held my first ball python on April 25, 2014. on November 7, 2014 i got my first reptile, my first ball python. this was how quickly i fell in love!

over the past month or so before i brought Yellow home (his full name is Yellow Lemon Lemongrab [goofy, i know]), i was scouring the internet trying to find every piece of information and every answer to my questions i could think of for setting up his home, but i always found myself coming to this site, and 9 times out of 10 i found what i was looking for. after all of the money i spent, and all the products i've bought and returned, after all the trial and error, i just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you for being so open and ready to answer newbie questions, as they have helped me so much in making sure i was providing a perfect home! you guys were also the reason i decided to join this community, so that i know if i ever have questions i know you guys can help.

Yellow hasn't come out of his warm hide since i put him in (which i think is a good thing), and this Friday i plan on trying to feed him for the first time. it has been PAINFUL not to see his adorable face, but i know that means he's happy.

here's my specs:
Yellow (Male Albino) was hatched September 20th 2014 (i have a picture posted on my profile)
He is housed in a 20 gallon, 30x12x12 glass tank with a mesh top which i have systematically taped Ceran wrap over with slits cut into it
His substrate is Coconut fiber with some Aspen on top, as well as repti-carpet underneath.
His heat comes from a UTH that covers half of his tank, which is hooked up to a rheostat with a probe
Warm side: 89-92*F
Cool side: 79-81*F
Humidity: 55-63*F
Two identical hides (which i think might be too big, but he will grow)

i remember researching for like, 6 months straight on here and writing things down, making lists. the only reason i became a member was just to say thanks to everyone. look at me now, 3 years later and 5 snakes total!!!

Hey all! Brand new to the forums... and I have a couple questions. I recently adopted a ball python from a foster home. The little guy has been through a lot to say the least, RI's and bad treatment. Anyway, his foster 'parent' and I were in communication, and she shipped him overnight to me. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions or some such bull, the poor guy wasn't delivered on Friday morning... he was delivered on MONDAY morning. He was in the box for four days and nights. I didn't have much hope that he would make it... but, low and behold, he survives on. Now, the question I have... his foster 'parent' said that he had never been nippy before and that even her children could handle him. Yesterday, however, when I got me out of the box, he bit me. He bit me again when I was putting him into his tub... and struck countless other times. I've left him alone since then. I'm hoping if I leave him alone for a week or so, maybe he'll go back to his normal temperament. The foster agrees. She thinks he's just completely stressed. What do you guys think? Good idea? Any other suggestions?

Thinking about getting a bp but have a few questions...

Hi! I am thinking about getting a male ball python (not to breed, just because they stay a bit smaller ) and I have some questions. First of all, this would be my first snake and reptile in general, so forgive me if i say something wrong! My first question is that I have 2 guinea pigs and I'm wondering if It'd be OK to keep the snake in the same room? Idk if the snake could smell the gp and get stressed or vice versa. Also, Is it better to get a baby or to adopt an adult? I thought maybe the older one could be more used to its previous owner and be harder to tame. And, I was planning on keeping it in a 20 gal. while it's young (like 1-2 yrs old) then moving it to a 40 gal. But I saw a guy who just keeps his bps in a 20 gal. their whole life because they are very inactive? What should I do there? And does anyone know a place where you can get cheap, healthy ball pythons? I do know a guy who hatched 2 normal, male ball pythons about a year ago, so I might just purchase 1 from him Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! New to the forum and the world of snakes!

I'm planning on getting a male ball python and was wondering what a good permanent tank size would be for him when he's an adult/fully grown? I'm looking into getting a pvc cage from Animal Plastics and deciding between their T10 (48x24x15) or their specialty Carpet Cage (36x24 x15).

Would 36 in length be large enough for a male or too cramped? Or should I get the 48 to be safe? I heard some males can grow as big as females.
