    Night heat

Hello, I’m a new BP owner and the reptile house set up the vivarium for me. It’s a wooden one with a sliding glass door front. It has a heat bulb in there and the temperatures are fine in the hot end and the cool end during the day. However the reptile house owner has said to keep the heat light on for 12 hours and then off for 12 hours.

I am concerned that the temps are dropping too low overnight. The humidity is fine 24 hours a day.

She is feeding and shedding well and comes out to have a roam when her light goes off but I am concerned that it’s too cold at night. The temp is dropping to around 65 overnight.

What does everyone else do about heat at night? Would an infrared bulb be good or a ceramic one so she gets the dark but still gets the heat? I don’t think I can use a mat with the vivarium I have and I’ve read reports about snakes burning.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes, you definitely want to keep that heat above 75 at ALL times, but 80ish is preferred. Using a dark bulb or a CHE will do the trick. I have been running dark, purple bulbs 24 hours for years with no issues.

That’s exactly what I thought... the reptile house owner has for a long list of credentials so I assumed I was getting good advice.

What do you do about light so they have a difference of night and day?

Nothing at all. Just the light that enters the room and enclosure naturally during daylight hours is plenty for a BP. They don't need any light cycles and prefer to be hidden during daylight hours anyway.
