As Taylor said...yes, they provide excellent ambient temps. I just drilled a hole large enough to squeeze the probe through on the back and let it hang inside the enclosure on the "cool" side. I have my Herpstat set at 81 and it's perfect. Nice 88-90 hot spot and 81 ambient.

    Re: Pvc Enclosure questions

I want to make my big girl something like this because she is out growing her enclosures. I need help on how to heat it and how to have humidity right. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Just the RHP and they are all doing very well.

Just a few thoughts on my pvc enclosure....

I picked mine up at the local Repticon not knowing much about them but knowing that I didn't want to use a tub (visual reasons) or a glass tank (feedback on this site about being high maintenance). I didn't have a BP at the time but knew if I bought the enclosure it would force me to pull the trigger on my 1st snake

I ended up buying a (36 x 12 x 12) but I so wish I would of gotten something deeper then 12 inches because once you put the hides in, space is limited to get in there and do what you need to do; let alone for the snake to explore.

I also ended up putting a UTH on each end because I was having trouble getting the cool side surface temp above 75. If I could do it over again, I would go the RHP route.

As for humidity, mine hovers between 70 -90ish. These enclosures do a great job in keeping it humid.

is yours mounted over the warm side with the probe on the cool side? what temps do you get? sorry for the questions; i'm thinking about my next PVC setup.

UGH! Reading the posts across this forum make RHP setups so confusing. UTH or no UTH, probe on cool side or warm side, probe up high or down low, do they up ambient temp or no, pro products or RBI... the debate is enough to make your head spin.

I should have mine in this month and I am still not 100% on how to get it positioned to where I want my temps.

I just wish there was a more definitive answer on how to go about controlling temperatures in a PVC enclosure with a RHP. There is so much conflicting information here that it makes for a tough time to figure out how to set these up.

So yes, I am following this as well to try and get a better understanding of what to do. To me, RHPs are no different than CHEs just emitting less surface temperature. Because of that belief I am planning my setup around how I currently keep my glass enclosure just replacing a RHP for the current CHE.

My CHE provides excellent ambient temperature control and since the thermodynamic principles are identical I see no reason not to use them the same.
