That is true.
One thing I found disappointing was that when I asked Ali if I could come directly to their plant to grab the cage. She said yes, but then I'd also have to pay the sales tax that I would avoid on an internet order.
So shipping VS, skipping it and picking up wasn't really a savings for me there.
The simple fact is caging, at least quality caging, is going to cost you something.
Personally I think it is worth every penny.
I don't want to build my own. I like the plastic cage manufactures out there and have seen many beautiful cages made by AP, Boaphile, PVC cages, Vision Cages a Pro-Line by Constrictors NW.
The bigger the cage the more the shipping, and that's how it is I goes.
Shipping costs vary depending on where you live. Some cages are so large that freight shipping is required.

I agree. I dont mind spending more on quality caging as well as thermostats as those items are going to be used daily by the snake for its life.
As for sales tax, makes sense as you picking it up no longer makes it an out of state sale. But if you live within driving distance, I'm not sure how much shipping would cost you vs just paying tax. I mean tax would be like 10% so what $70? If shipping is cheaper than that for you from AP, i hate you lol. For me it has to come across the Rockies which adds a big uptick on my shipping cost. Like i said, one cage cost me like $200. Second cage was cheap at like $30 extra but third cage was like $90 more. We figured i must have broke the next level for shipping weight with that third cage which would explain the price hike.
And yeah the 6' and bigger cages require freight shipping from what Ali told me. The 3 cages came on a giant pallet. It took the driver with his pallet jack and me pushing on the back end to get the pallet in my garage lol.
I agree also, building your own would probably be cost effective if you already had all the power tools needed and the set up as well as a good source for PVC sheets. Otherwise one mistake and you could be out a whole sheet of PVC lol. Like i said, i dont mind paying for a quality unit as it is something that will be used daily for 20+ years.
