Is the tank uncovered glass all the way around? If so he may not feel secure, you could try covering 3 of the 4 sides up to see if that calms it down. I also have a warmer hot spot for mine. I provide closer to 110 degrees F. Like I said before he may just be digging to dig. My beardie has about 6 inches of substrate and burrows all the time.
