Boa done right!

I will voice out on this a little bit.
I made a thread the other day praising carpet pythons and I stand by it, but IF, IF IF I had to. And I am talking about being forced to choose something.

Boa constrictors are probably my favorite species of snake. They lack a little in the curious, carefree department like carpets in my experience, and are a bit less arboreal, though mine is very arboreal at close to 7 feet; I feel, and this is just based my personal taste, boas are my true love.

I get a bit wishy washy here as I keep 4 different species and it can sometimes be flavor of the day. Sadly, you will never hear me say the royal python is a contender. Of the 4 I keep here the royal is the bottom of the list and she is really only here because it is my son's snake and she was the snake that got me into the hobby. Still a sweetheart but not an interest of mine.

After a couple of days in a row spending a lot of time with my SD x Dwarf retic, I pulled out the boa in this above thread. I'm actually typing all of this with him on my shoulders. He's thick, very strong, but isn't nearly as intense or busy as the retic. I can actually relax when he's out. Its funny how a bigger, stronger snake can be less of a handling issue than something smaller, at least in girth. I imagine colubrid keepers, at least of certain species can relate.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I just talked up carpets and called them the best all around, and I think that still stands when I cover all the bases. I love my retic, we had 2 great days in a row, but when I really want a BIG snake that I can relax with, that is bigger, and more size impressive than a carpet, the BC wins. Carpets can't compete with the thick, dense muscle of boas, and as far as body shape, the loaf of bread boa shape is my favorite of all!

I love the feeling of VERY controlled power.

I guess if you are that person looking for a big snake, but not huge, and something fairly active and semi arboreal, and VERY easy to handle a boa constrictor might be for you.
