Re: Something like Scratches on BP- help
will see how it goes with this shed..
Never fed my snake at home with live because of this, but its my job to feed live pray at work. Not my choice. I don't want to kill rats myself so hopefully something can be done with this cause I cant go through all of this weekly. I keep an eye on every snake until it kills and eats and now one is hurt.
This really made me sad and worried.
Thank you for answering.

Hope that it doesn't leave a permanent mark... My boss is not going to be happy... This one is his favourite.. I have 20 snakes there, this never happen and I dont understand.. I kept my eyes on the rat whole time.. He couldn't move a muscle... Is there a possibility for it to be something else?

If you're sure it's not the rat, maybe something is sharp in the tank and the snake is rubbing against it?

You are now experiencing the struggle of dealing a partially white snakes anything from scratches from rat nails to rubbing will show, on normal it's likely there too but the advantage is that it does not show.
It will be gone with the next shed without having to do anything.

Something I did when I fed live is watch if the snake didn't constrict the rat properly enough, maybe front claws or hind claws are hanging out too much and can scratch at the snake- I just use the tongs to hold their feet to prevent that.
Occasionally, the snake would constrict poorly, and the rat's whole head is loose and free to bite the snake. It's not pretty, but I hold their mouth/head off with the tongs to prevent bites too, so they end up chomping on the tongs instead of the snake.

Yes Deborah, you are right. That is the only white snake I have, got two light candy ones also, but they are not so sensitive.
I was watching the whitey pie bald bite that rat and he rolled around him fast, bit the head, didn't see any feet loose to be able to scratch and I stand by with a forceps to put under the teeth like you mention Redsheperd. Nobody here at work puts much attention to those things, Boss calls me snake girl and tells me I over exaggerate with care towards all od them, jet im the only one feeding for months and they are finally getting a good weight on so im happy.
Checking my whitey now, he looks better..
Can't wait for pied to shed and for this to come off. I take it as a personal fail and feel so down for it.

Jees , you've got a stronger stomach than me !
I didn't realise it was so 'hands on' , I thought you just dropped the rat in and watched to make sure the rat is grabbed and eaten and was no danger to the snake ..
