Maternal Incubation Check
I haven't been on here in a while but this is the only place I come for BP questions. So anyway, my female laid 6 perfect eggs Friday night and I'm going to try maternal incubation since I only have one clutch. She laid them pretty much directly on the heat tape which is set at 90 and the humidity is around 70-80%. Should I move her off the heat tape so she's not directly on it?
Also she had two eggs that did not adhere to the clutch and she refuses to coil one of them. I'm going to try to put the egg in her coil but I don't want to stress her out too much. I'm also worried about the loose eggs rolling around but I read somewhere the eggs will readjust if not rolled too heavily. Is that correct? Am I doing everything right? Any tips or suggestions? Thanks!

Cant answer your questions but I am interested in the responses.
Good luck to you and her.

Do you have a incubator? If not why not see if someone local can incubate them for you.

Re: Maternal Incubation Check
I do not have an incubator because this is my first ever clutch and I would have never forgiven myself if I took the eggs away from her and had the clutch die due to human error. She seems to be doing just fine besides the one egg she refuses to coil. Should I candle it to see if it's alive? Maybe she's pushing it out because it is unhealthy.

Re: Maternal Incubation Check
I just had my first 2 clutches this season and I too did maternal incubation. I don't have have belly heat in my rack but have dual radiant heat. My temps were set at 90 at night and 91 during they day. Both females laid their eggs in the middle of their tubs. Today is day 52 for the first one and so far 2 have came out of the egg. If I were you I would remove mom, candle all the eggs, slide them just a tiny bit off the hot spot and put mom back...good luck!!!

While with some female (generally those with experience) it is not uncommon for them to kick an egg out that is no fertile, first timer however will do it even though the egg is fine (just had one doing it yesterday, it's her first year and the egg is healthy with good vein structure).
Any eggs that is not in the coil regardless of your incubation method should always be candled, chances are it is fine.

Re: Maternal Incubation Check
I candled the loose egg and it seemed fine. I placed it back in her coil, checked on her a couple hours later and it's still in the coil just poking out a bit. I think it should be fine and if it comes out again I'll just keep placing it back in. Thanks guys! I'll keep you updated
