Reptile Basics' Single Door Cages

I'm about to purchase a cage for a rescue bp and was wondering if anyone loves, hates, or is indifferent to Reptile Basics' Single Door Cages.

I almost placed an order for one of those last weekend. After correspondence with the owner Bobby I decided on racks from him. My experience with rescues is sometimes they've been thru neglect/abuse. Before you shell out $$$ make sure it's a good eater. Unless it's already really tame, already very comfortable with human activity (both unlikely in a rescue), then those cages can present a problem during feeding time. If it's not a good feeder go with something more secure. Good luck!

If you have a snake that gets snazzy (I do), I wouldn't want a single door that's 4' wide - that much more space to escape through.

For our BPs or most of our other snakes it wouldn't be a problem, just a little more to keep an eye on while spot-cleaning, changing water, etc.

She's being kept in an aquarium with two other bps, a corn snake, and a recently captured rat snake. It's insane.

I'm taking her first because she has flaky skin and has a small whistle when she breathes, while the others look healthy (surprisingly). I held her for a while and she seems very chill, but who knows what she'll be like when I get her to safety/security. The only thing working in her favor is that she's eating well - or so I'm told.

Good point! I hadn't thought of escape being easier if the door is too wide. I'll look into sliding if I end up with a cage and not a bin. Thanks!

It’s truly a mess. I will never understand why some people flat out refuse to do any research before taking on an animal...or 5!


I’m doing my best to educate him, but he’s the type of person that will shut down if criticized, so it will have to be done gently and slowly. I’m lucky he offered to let me take one.


I'm working on taking two more, but they'll have to wait.

Respiratory infection, right? I've done some reading about symptoms. She, thankfully, is not doing any of the following:

Symptoms include listlessness, weight loss due to decreased appetite, swollen or bloated body, gaping, open mouth breathing, often with audible exhalations when in an advanced state. Wheezing may be heard, or clicking noises when breathing. Bubbly, stringy or sheeting mucous appears in the mouth. The head may be held in a raised position to facilitate breathing. In snakes, the tines of the forked tongue may be stuck together. Respiratory infections in snakes are especially dangerous in those snakes who have only one functioning lung (colubrids, etc.).

except for a faint high-pitched whistling that I only noticed the first of two times I held her. The current owner just reported that has not been hearing it and cannot hear it now. Is it possible that it isn't a respiratory tract infection? I will still bring her to a vet for a checkup regardless.
