Hello all! Excited to be a first-time BP owner!

Hey everyone!

Music teacher from CT here. I've been wanting to get a pet for a while, and after a long period of thinking and researching, I've decided to go with a ball python! But really though, as soon as I saw their little faces I was hooked. And the more I researched, the more fascinated I became.

So I'm finally going to be getting one! I've been setting up the tank, and this is what I have managed to throw together:



Temps and humidity are looking good, and so all it needs now is a ball python to call it home!

I found this beautiful piebald from Luis Alonso Exotics on Facebook. After talking with him (great customer service, btw!) I made the decision to purchase!



This is the picture that he sent me of the snake. Male, born 2016, 480 grams. He can't send it out for delivery until the overnight temps are warm enough for it to be safe, so it might be a week or two before I get him.

I am a very excited soon-to-be first-time snake owner!! Like I said, I have been scouring these forums and elsewhere and doing plenty of research, but any advice anyone out there has for a newbie would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, and good first addition. Make sure you read the ball python caresheet and the stick threads in the husbandry section for setups. These guys are super easy to care for if you follow the "rules".

your setup is beautiful!! And glad you're getting a sub-adult male and did research already, you can avoid some potential insecurity/feeding issues LOL. And I like that you have the towel covering the screen top. I assume it's damp?

Thanks! Putting together is a whole lot of fun, I've found Can't wait to actually keep my snake in there! And yeah thanks, it definitely seemed that getting a snake that was a little more grown and established made the most sense for a first-time snake owner. As for the towel, at the time of taking this picture I just had it resting on top of the tank, dry, to try to insulate for both heat and humidity, but since then I've covered the front half of the top of the tank with foil and that seems to have done the trick.

Welcome! Beautiful pied! I think it is amazing how this industry has transformed. Being a ball lover that left the scene for 12 years to come back this year, I get a tear in my eye every time I pick up my daughter's super pastel. I remember 12 plus years ago, my dream snake was a pastel and a pied, but the pied was really out of financial reach. These days, everyone gets to enjoy all kinds of ball pythons because of the hard work of everyone involved in breeding these snakes.
