semi-urgent -- heat/thermostat question
hey, all.
i have had my ball python for a few months.
the temperatures have always been perfect. (around 90 hot side, around 80 cool side)
i have him in a tub with two heat pads connected to two seperate thermostats.
it was very cold this winter so the cold side heat was in fact needed.
however, it's warming up now.
last night before bed i checked up on him and the temperatures were too high.
the hot side was around 110 degrees and the cold side was 100.
it was very late so i couldn't do much about it.
i took him out, waited for the temps to go back down, turned off the heat, and put him back in.
so i am unsure what to do. i heard some people just turn their heat off in the summer because even with a thermostat it is just too hot. should i get a better thermostat? i've heard so many stories of thermostat malfunctions happening and i just don't want to risk it.
thankfully it could have been way hotter and my ball python is fine.
right now with no heat his temperature has fallen to the 70s. if i plug the heat back in and lower the thermostat temp it's still too hot.
i found out that snakes could be okay without heat for a few days and the worst case if it's too cold is they just brumate. however today was supposed to be his feeding day, and i don't want to feed him if he doesn't have enough heat to digest or something.
please help, i'm a beginner to all this and i don't know what to do.

Something doesn't sound right. If your thermostat is set to 90°, why is your heat pad staying on and going to 110°? Are you sure you have a thermostat or are you using a rheostat?

What temperature is your thermostat set to? Where is the probe, what heat source are you using and where is that? How are you measuring the temperature inside the enclosure?
If you're controlling your heat sources with thermostats, there should have been no way for it to get that hot- it should have turned the heat source off when it exceeded its set temperature. It sounds like your thermostat may have failed, in which case it's time for a new one.

i wouldn't feed if your having temp issues.
what kind of thermostat is it?
where are you placing your thermostat probe? it should be sandwiched between the bottom of the tub and the heat pad.
how are you measuring the heat inside the enclosure? temp gun, probed thermometer?
do you have any other heat sources for the enclosure besides the two heat pads? they should have never gotten that hot if your thermostat probe placement was correct.

it's a jump start thermostat (two of them one for each)
sorry should've specified -- the hot side thermostat is set to around 105 in order for the hot side to be around 90. the cold side is set to around 90 in order for it to actually be around 80.
however yesterday the thermostats were set to those same temps but the actual temps were way too high
i am using two heat pads under the tub. the thermostat probes are in between the heat pads and the tub.
is it likely for both thermostats to fail at the same time though?
i am most definitely getting new ones tonight but idk i feel like something is off

If your thermostat are reliable the temperture should remain the same even if the ambient temp of the room rises, that is what thermostat do, they continually adjust the temperture.
If they don't adjust the temperture accordingly there is an issue, either with the T-Stat themselves (what brand are you using?) or the setup and probe placement.

forgot to add, im reading the temperatures with an infrared temp gun
the thermostats are hydrofarm jump start thermostats
im buying new ones tonight, any recommendations? i know herp stats are good but i only have one snake so i need one a little less professional but still reliable

If there was a power surge or something at your house, it's possible that they could both have been fried.
Is it reading 100/110° on the thermostat probe, or with your thermometer? What thermometer are you using to measure the temperature inside the enclosure?

oh, a power surge seems pretty likely. it happens once in a while around here.
it was reading 100/110 inside the enclosure, measured with an infrared temp gun
i turned off everything and am now keeping him warm using towels and keeping him near me until i figure something out
