Re: Trapezoid shaped viv for BP - glass sides - Good idea or not??
I don't see why not! As long as you can keep proper temps and humidity. That will be the challenging part but there's always a solution. If it's too much glass, the snake will utilize its hide.
How did you plan on doing the lid? That will be the important part I think.

What do you mean about the lid? I thought they'd just pop together like the sides/base?
The front has the sliding doors so the lid doesn't/won't move?

So it won't be a screen lid, just glass and all access will be through the front? I know with the only glass tank I have at the moment, I have problems keeping the heat high enough with just UTH. I have to supplement with a light. With something that large, I don't know how easy it would be to heat with just UTH as well. Did you plan on using any other heating method?

Oh right yeah I gotcha now. I don't care about how I heat it, as long as its constant. My small viv thats 2 foot is heated by a ceramic bulb on the one side, using a Habistat to keep that side on any temp I like, and the cool side is always around 5 degrees or more lower than that - the cool side is by an open window so that helps.
I didn't get a UTH cause I didn't know they were around at the time, but it doesn't matter. I manage fine with a ceramic bulb and barely have to spray for moisture
OBVIOUSLY THIS WILL CHANGE FOR A TANK ARGUABLE 3 TIMES THE FOOT PRINT!!

A uth is not meant to heat the ambient air in the tank but used to create a hotspot.
And for an enclosure that size is just go with an RHP.

Oh, I'm relatively new to this too. I didn't know you could do a RHP with a glass top. How do you go about mounting? Carefully drill holes and then seal them after mounting and bolting?

Sorry I should have specified. I meant the OP should use an RHP to heat his trapezoid enclosure. But I guess you could use one too if you want:p

Oh, I knew what you meant! I just didn't know you could mount a RHP to a glass top. I thought they were mostly utilized on plastic and/or wood enclosures!
I currently have 2 wood, 2 plastic, and 1 glass enclosure. I'm actually only utilizing 1 wood and 1 glass at the moment though. I'm pretty unhappy with the ones I'm currently using. One of the plastic enclosures, I bought just because I found a deal on it. It's Animal Plastics. Too large for a Ball but it came with a RHP already mounted. Haven't found anything to put in it yet. Other plastic enclosure was found at a local Herp show. My wife and I are moving in the next week or so and I want to get through the move before I attempt to set that enclosure up.
I'm hoping to order 2 brand new AP enclosures set up the way I'd like in the next couple weeks. My wife is being very picky and wants her Ball to have a nice display enclosure in the living room.
