Is this better than just placing tin foil on top?

It is just sturdier and will hold up a lot better, plus makes it easier to cut it to fit.

You can cut the cardboard to fit, including a hole for the heat lamp. The foil is important because it will not absorb the humidity. The blankets are great for keeping in heat, but actually are counterproductive for humidity. The blankets will soak up the moisture lowering the humidity in the enclosure. Blankets are also a fire hazard that close to a heat lamp.

I'm assuming cardboard will keep the heat in as well?
