    Dumerils Boa mousers

I have a mouser male Dumerils Boa that refuses rats. Today i went to buy live mice to feed him. The seller told me that maybe i would have to feed him mice his entire life because it might work only this way and Dumerils Boas don,t become that large anyway. Does anyone own a mouser Dumerils Boa? If yes, how big is it?

I own several Dumerils boas, two adults and a few that are 2-3 years old. Dums definitely become large enough to outgrow mice and my adults are eating 12-16 oz rabbits (the equivalent of jumbo rats).

Did you feed them mice when they were young? If yes, at what age did you switch them to rats? My Dumeril is 7 months old now.

My young Dums were switched to rats as early as possible. The juvies eat either a medium rat or a 3-4 oz rabbit fuzzy every 3-4 weeks.

My little dumeril's girl is still on F/T mice but she is a REALLY good eater. She even a chubby baby lol. And dumeril's do get rather large.

If your dumeril's ends up a mouser, you are going to be one broke person lol.

My girl is close to 1 year old and still eats adult mice. I'm not too worried, i have never not had a snake switch when the time came. Some are just more work than others. My JCP was the hardest and i had to give an extra week of hunger and then brain the rats a couple times to get her going but after that, she was fine. I imagine my dumerils should be fairly easy as like i said, she is garbage can and even as a couple month old baby, she ate F/T mice with gusto that rivals my boas and retic.

I would personally be more worried about getting your dumerils switched from live to F/T. I would not want to chance a big live rat or rabbit with any of my snakes.

No worries for me at all in this regard. I feed live. I make sure always that my snakes are in advantage before feeding them a live prey. I let them smell the prey before i release it in the cage, so they will know in advance whats coming. And i also make sure that the snake is in advatage regarding the size of the prey and the size of the snake.

They can be switched but you may have to wait them out for a few months. This would be more successful if it were used to FT though.

    Re: Dumerils Boa mousers

I want to post this update.. It was the easiest thing to do to switch my 9 months old male Dumerils Boa from mice to rats. As his body grows, he required more food. And he has an amazing feeding response. I got to be careful in the future when i feed him. Actually i could tell from his body language if he is hungry or not. I feed him live. So After feeding him an XXl mouse before two days, he remained hungry. I wanted to feed him a small rat, around 5 or 6 weeks old. So when i opened the cage he knew that food is coming, and he struck the air first and waited for the food. So when i put the rat inside he struck it immediately and ate it.
