I also never think "free to good home" is a good idea for the reasons you listed. A truly good home would not mind at all spending $20 or $30 rehoming fee for their new pet, and proves they at least are willing to spend money on their pet (vet bills, equipment, etc).
Thanks! I found a facebook group local to my area (WI) and was put in touch with a REPUTABLE RESCUE that asked all the right questions and warned me about the unscrupulous people in the area. I double checked the rescue references. and they totally asked all the right questions.

The Craigslist thing with application isn't a good plan though. I found out many many reputable excellent python keepers won't admit how many animals they have in house nor allow strangers in. Because some know-nothing sees set up idea for snakes but reports them to gov't for zoning violations and/or cruelty for keeping snakes in drawers or hidden without room to roam the range (hidden drawer no room to range is heaven no abuse to many species)

Also Craigslist has flippers. Take your animal/equipment to resale at profit and maybe just feed the snake to another animal or kill it. In it for money Happened to a friend of mine Pets goats to good home. Ended up butchered
