Rehoming Ball Python/Reliable Rescue?/Avoiding giving to reseller?

I have an adult normal colored ball python here. I couldn't weigh him today He exceeds 5 pounds.
I am too sick to take care of him any longer. I want him to go to a good home. Are there any RELIABLE rescues in the Milwaukee, WI area?

Is he worth MONEY--just a normal colored ball? I do not need the money and will give him away for free TO GOOD HOME but do NOT want to give him away FREE to someone who will sell him into bad conditions or eat him (Both happened to a friend of mine with pets free to good home)

I also am willing to give away his equipment with him but I am afraid someone might want the equipment free and then ditch the snake.

How do I find a GOOD home for him in the Milwaukee area?

Any thanks in advance greatly appreciated.

Just general ideas, you could post him on craigslist but list him with a required application for people to fill out (with husbandry questions and whatnot) and email to you to apply.

I also never think "free to good home" is a good idea for the reasons you listed. A truly good home would not mind at all spending $20 or $30 rehoming fee for their new pet, and proves they at least are willing to spend money on their pet (vet bills, equipment, etc).

Check your facebook, that's how I got rid of a couple of my snakes. But that's babies :/ I have yet to be rid of the two adults I already bred and no longer want to be housing. Still looking for good forever homes for them

I found a facebook group local to my area (WI) and was put in touch with a REPUTABLE RESCUE that asked all the right questions and warned me about the unscrupulous people in the area. Try reaching out in your area for reputable reptile rescues/rehomes/fosters BUT CHECK THE REFERENCES. Many try to "flip" the animals or just kill them or feed them to something else and profit off your equipment you give away free or cheap to care for the animal they are going to dump.

Thanks! I found a facebook group local to my area (WI) and was put in touch with a REPUTABLE RESCUE that asked all the right questions and warned me about the unscrupulous people in the area. I double checked the rescue references. and they totally asked all the right questions.

The Craigslist thing with application isn't a good plan though. I found out many many reputable excellent python keepers won't admit how many animals they have in house nor allow strangers in. Because some know-nothing sees set up idea for snakes but reports them to gov't for zoning violations and/or cruelty for keeping snakes in drawers or hidden without room to roam the range (hidden drawer no room to range is heaven no abuse to many species)

Also Craigslist has flippers. Take your animal/equipment to resale at profit and maybe just feed the snake to another animal or kill it. In it for money Happened to a friend of mine Pets goats to good home. Ended up butchered

Make it a $60 rehoming fee then, if you're afraid. Most flippers/people with other intentions won't go for a $30 normal male ball python though.

Try contacting Captive Bred Specialties in Waukesha. I don't know if they do rescue/adoptions themselves, but may have suggestions. I know Reptile Rapture does (our Hoggie was a rescue from them), but they're Madison area.
