I am getting a ball python soon, and am trying to figure out heating. I have a under tank heater, and a thermostat so far. For my size tank and room temperature this isn't enough. Ive been testing out different light bulb wattages from various bearded dragon extras I have. I have found that a 75 watt basking light is the lowest wattage that can get my tank up to the correct temperature/higher. It just turns on and off a lot, which I assume is better than if it can barely reach the temperature I am looking for, and maybe sometimes can't. I have had a red heat lamp before and I don't like it. The tank is in my bedroom, so not only is it ugly but it is bright when I try to sleep. So my question is: Can I use a Black nightlight bulb (flukers) as an additional heat source all the time? I would assume its not a problem in the day, as it doesn't cast much light, and at night it won't be too bright. Also, does 75 watts from a basking light generate the same heat as 75 watts from a black night light?
