Yeah, I'd just change out the bit of substrate the next day while snake is a snooze. This method seems complicated, stressful for the snake and obviously a risk to your fingers. It's not gonna be so cute when he does it at 2000g.

Definetly, its not gonna be funny if the female does it once she is fully grown

I won't repeat what everyone else has told you, but if you're worried about the pre-killed rat's excrement coming out while it's being constricted, maybe you can squeeze some out yourself before giving it to your snake. This may alleviate at least some of the mess it's made.

I want to start off by apologizing for being hard headed and maybe sounding like a smart**s. I started this thread as a joke for being bit, but then got mad when i was actually receiving good advice that i didnt appreciate at the moment, that was extremely inmature from my part and im sorry for that. Obviously you people have much more experience with snakes than me, and after giving it a lot of thought I will stop stressing my snakes with the bin. It makes sense that they get stressed out by this. My concerns are that the snakes eat too much substrate too often and they get impacted. If anyone has ever had that issue i would appreciate if you shared your experience. The other concern is the growth of bacteria in the rats bodily fluids that remain in the enclosure and substrate. When my snakes make a mess i remove a lot of substrate, even parts that are dry around the pee. I want to keep their environment as bacteria-free as possible. Rat poop i can pick up, no issue, but the rat pee im not going to be able to see is what i worry about. I change the whole substrate every 3 months (I only had my snakes for less than that, the first substrate change is on the 24) but if rat pee in the enclosure is not big deal then i wont worry about it (of course, if i can see it i'll take it out). Also, if the snakes get rat pee/blood/poop on them, do i have to clean them even if they just ate or is it really not an issue to wait the two days? Again, Im very sorry if i was rude and ignorant before, i care for my animals and i always say that if im doing something wrong i want to correct it to give them a good, stress free life.

As regards the substrate issue I just put a few pieces of card down over the substrate and I've never had any problems at all ..

Those little pieces of card found in boxes of chocolates / biscuits are useful but any card is great of course .

I will try that next week and see if it helps
