Rats definitely smell WAY less then mice !! Not that they smell like roses
If it isn't a large colony, it can be manageable. Just clean more often. Perhaps a air cleaner with activated charcoal might help?
About the Burm, hm. How is his feeding response when he smells rodents ? Have you ever tested if smell alone will trigger his response?
