New member and soon to be new to own a ball python

How's it going ever one my names allan. I've been in the shadows checking out the site and reading up on the care, live and what comes with the ownership of a ball python. But let me give a little back ground on me and how I've come to want a ball python. When I was younger (iam 25 now ) I wanted a snake thought they where awesome amd my uncle had a python that he pulled out of a engine bay at he work but would let me go near it. Time went on and my mother married and we moved in to a house in the water well little did I know about snakes and why they act in ways they do there where cotton mouths there and we would fish while fishing we would be see them swimming and trying to bite us and black racers thay would chase after me but now I know it was self defense, but at that moment I was terrified of the animals now fast forward to 2016 and I started to get over my fears going to reptile stores holding them and now I am ready to make the jump hopefuly this Saturday or Sunday at a repticon here but first let me give you a list of what I have set up to make sure it's ok from the info I got on the site.

My set up is going to be a tub for now I have a 6 and 16 quart tub, depending on the size I get, heat tape, a thermostat, Pam to coat the inside before the snake goes in, paper for the substright, a hide and a temp gun also a water dish.

As for feeding iam hoping for a Snake that feeds f/t and I found a feeling chart on here that I saved

Sorry if words are jumbled or the post is ranting on just want to give a back story and info on what I have for a set up and if there's anything iam missing or you would like to ask please do i am open to others opinions and will listen to what people.

Also thank you for having such a awesome site to get info off of it truly helps and I appreciate it and iam sure alot of other people that read in the shadows do to.

Sounds like you are doing your homework. Make sure you have some aluminum tape to mount the heat tape and a couple hides. Good luck and welcome.

I sure hope the Pam you are talking about is Provent a Mite and not the cooking spray You don't need to spray the provent a mite unless you observe some mites. You very well "mite" not. (haaaaah, i'm so clever).

sounds like you've done some good research. do you have a photo of the set up?

as soon as the hides come in it says tomorrow, hopefuly and yes iam talking about Provent a Mite and i was going to use it just as a worry free proventative since the snake would becoming from a show and the chance maybe slim for it (idk still new to it) but you could never be to sure if there is eggs on the snake? i just thought it would be a good idea to do, also i have another question when you get like lets say the hide in what do you use to clean it and the tub before putting the snake in?

Haha good you can use it as a preventative measure of you want. I received exactly one snake from a show that had mites. Mites will lay eggs off the host so if you don't visually see any, probably nothing to worry about. Good to have on hand tho!

I clean with soap and water. easy peasy

    Ok thank you

Well just a update I've ran into issues already I got a heat mat off of Amazon and a zilla 500 watt thermo the heat pad was defective uneven heating and wouldn't go past 80 and the cool side won't go above 75 so I went out and found a local store that has flex watt wired it up and it's working so now iam trying to readjust the thermostat to it and I noticed the thermostat wouldn't turn off so I looked on here and say a thread that said the relay goes bad and to smack it which I did and now it's working again so I need to get a new thermostat but iam getting the hot side to 88 to 93 is what iam seeing on the infrared thermometer but the cool side still won't go above 75 will the heat start to transfer over or iam I going to have to figure another way? My room is at 76 at night also
