I'm more of a colubrid person myself as well. Though I've kept and bred BPs in the past, never really was my niche. It's not that they prefer non-rodent options, it's that snakes are opportunistic feeders, so they'll sometimes eat other stuff. If you're getting stuff from the wild you're risking the snakes health because of pesticides and chemicals, etc...

Regarding fish, I see a lot of people, not on here but in general groups and stuff feed their snakes goldfish. This is absolutely the worst choice, and it'll kill the snake at some point. Same with rosy reds and minnows.
