It's called tease or stress feeding. Not generally recommended for the more timid species. You're more likely to lose ground in the feeding game using this strategy with royals.

None of my three like to be touched with their food. It worked fine wen they were young. If they show interest and I touch them, they immediately lose interest. One girl won't eat if the rat moves infront of her. She scares that easy. With her you just warm it up, put it infront of her hide, and leave it over night. She won't eat before dark and will only eat if she's in her hide when the rat is introduced. It took a while to get her figured out.

I always dangle feed my guy (with tongs of course). Sometimes I have to practically bump his nose with the rat.....but that is not because he is a picky eater....it's because he has such a strong feeding response that for the 5 minutes I'm temperature setting the rat in the room, he is going nuts from the scent in the tank and when I open the lid it's tough sometimes to keep him inside. So basically I have to lure him back down inside by showing him that the rat is inside not outside.
