    whats the secret????

shedding is the question everyone has but mine is a little different (hopefully) my bp will have "ok" sheds its all in one piece except maybe two pieces (usually just one little piece on the head and mid section) i have yet to have a beautiful shead to the point to where i wanna bag it up and keep it forever (i do that with all sheds i guess im weird) but my question is really not a big deal beacuse it does come off with a wet rag that ill let him roam through but i want to be able to get a full shed at least once lol.. humidity stays around 50-60% non shed cycle then i bump it up by moving water dish under the rhp and it gets to about 65-75% max. he is on aspen bedding in a t8, temps are all perfect. so.... whats the secret is it because most of yall keep them in tubs or what? thank you

Mine didnt shed too perfectly when not in tubs.
The moment i changed all 10 over, boom, perfect sheds every time. Theyre on cypress? Mulch. Humidity stays relatively constant but i spray twice when they go into blue and it raises to 75-78%. Ive not had a broken shed since. So that may be it, since tubs retain humidity quite well.

    Re: whats the secret????

Where do you measure your humidity? I also have T8 cages with RHPs. For me, the RHPs have a large effect on the air temp in the cage. If my cool side was at 50-60% humidity, the warm side humidity would probably be around 40%.

Humidity is proportional to air temperature, so for a given amount of water in the air, a lower air temp results in a higher humidity.

You may want to get a spray bottle and mist them with water twice daily during the shed cycle. Even though I keep mine in tubs and the humidity is adequate, I do this and they typically have no issues with complete sheds.

i measure humidity on both sides of enclosure on the cool side i use the acurite temp/humid with probe (probe is located by the probe for the rhp) and on the warm side i use the zoomed temp/humid gauge stuck the the back of the enclosure.....and thats weird that you say that because for some reason i usually have a 5-10% difference in humidity and the lower humidity level is always the cool side.. any reasons why?

The zoomed dial gauges aren't known for their accuracy. Also - if the zoomed is closer to the water bowl, that could affect the reading. Try moving the acurite near the zoomed and see if they give similar readings.

Do you take a temp of the air on the warm side?

I have both Acurites and Exoterra digital thermometers/hygrometers and have been happy with both.

    Lightbulb

    I had 2 one-piece sheds from each of 2 guys I have...
Every time I notice they're "in blue" I start misting on the inside of their respective hot hides (from ReptileBasics) twice a day. Spray the snake too for a good measure. But not "the substrate".
Haven't had any problems with sheds at all.

They are both on paper towels, usual humidity +-45% nowdays.
