The only hesitancy I have on this is the lack of information of what can be harmful (like dogs with chocolate or onions) and what isn't.

An experiment I might not mind doing in an animal research lab, but not one I'd like to try out on my pet.
A hungry snake can be tricked into eating just about anything.

I have seen pictures of rat snakes found dead with golf balls in the gut......they like eggs and golf balls look close enough. I have also seen x-ray photos of a snake with a light bulb in its belly....probably same reason. Captive snakes have been known to half eat themselves too. You can find those pics or videos with a quick google search. Just cause a snake will eat something doesn't mean it is voluntary and a necessary part of their diet.

A friend of mine who works at a vet clinic recently helped treat a wild snake (I can't remember the species; something local to where we are in STL, Missouri) that had swallowed a vintage decorative doorknob. They had to operate to remove it.
