    Room lighting interrupting light cycle

Hi there. Kind of a dumb question about lighting.
I tend to be up pretty late at night so I usually keep the overhead lights in my room on. Will this disrupt my BP's light cycle? I have an incandescent red lamp that I keep on for him all the time too.

BP's, and most snakes in general don't really need a light cycle. Also lamps can dry out the air/humidity in your tank, I wouldn't recommend using them. There is always a light on in my reptile room, and without fail, all my snakes are out and about at some time during the night. If you really want to have a light cycle, just keep the blinds open in the room during the day and close them at night. Even with a light in the room on there will still be a noticeable difference, and like I said it isn't necessary to have a light cycle for Ball Pythons. Hope this helped

I don't think it matters much. I turn the light on when I need the light. I do keep a towel draped over the tub at all times so it's somewhat dark though. Like Snizards said, mine is up and about during parts of the nighttime hours no matter what the light situation is. Sometimes she sits with her head poking out of the hide and sometimes she is moving the hides all over the tub.

Thank you! I had no idea they didn't really need one. No need to worry then. I've actually been having really good luck with maintaining humidity. I got a Zoo Med Repti Terrarium humidifier that has kept the tank at a constant comfy 55-60%, and that's just on the lowest setting. I'll bump it up when he goes through his first shed. Thanks again for your help.

I tried a towel today too before I read this and like you said, I don't think it matters much. I had the room lights on for a little bit and he came out for a while to roam at night then went back in his hide. He sure uses those hides a lot. Thank you for your help!
