    name this morph

    Found this ad on CraigsList:

"I'm not even listing his Morph, because I get tired of the arguements from the so called 'professionals' in this area. He is 13 months old, I got him at two months old from Outback Reptiles in Florida. He is a captive hatch from a Wild caught BP. Mike and Ian at Outback are the biggest Ball Python importers in the world. He is absolutely beautiful, healthy, great eater of live rats (small).I'm moving and cannot take him, he is the last of a large collection we had.$150.00. If you know the Morph, you will know he is worth way more then I'm asking. I'm trying to help someone out with either an awesome pet, or a strong male breeder.

    Re: name this morph

With no history of breedings or even a hint his look is made with just one gene?

Normal - with granite flecking that may or may not pass down.

It's a captive hatch and until proven different it is a normal, not all captive hatched import prove out to be anything regardless of whom imports them, most actually do not prove to be anything more than normal, it's a gamble people take when getting an import, the only way to find out is by breeding it, holding back some offsprings, pairing them back to him etc.

Until than it's worth $20 top because that is what normal go for if you want to take a gamble and pay $150 for something that may or may not prove to be anything it's up to you.

    Re: name this morph

If it's a morph it seems like it would be a dominant gene. How many single dominant gene morphs go for "way more" than $150?

And was the wild caught BP carrying eggs and this snake was hatched? Or was the WC bred? Can you prove out a morph from a wild caught BP from a single clutch? This whole ad seems like BS to get you to think you're getting some great morph for a bargain.

Normal male are going $10/$15, $20 was actually generous, females $20/$25 as hatchlings, $50 for proven breeders.

Normal male for me it's free to good home 90% of the time or I wholesale.

For me and 99% of people selling normal at shows or locally where most normal sell in general, why? Because, the chances of selling a $20 normal online with a $60 shipping fee is VERY slim, unless you find a buyer that has no clue on the market at all and is willing to pay $45 for a normal male and get it shipped. FYI you can get a pastel for $25/$50 a mojave, cinny, pin etc for $50/75

Normal are even sold as feeders that's how hard it is to move normal especially males. There is no demand hence the $10/$25 dollars price tag on an hatchling in the US and a $50 price tag for a proven female.

Knowing the market is kind of the things I have to do.

"I'm not even listing his morph".... yeah, probably because he has no idea if it even is a morph-- and it most likely isn't. His critical view of the "professionals" is probably because they told him the exact same thing everyone here is telling you... that until that animal proves, it is nothing more than a normal. The man who wrote that ad is either very arrogant and truly believes he has something new without proof, or is blatantly trying to scam someone.

Now, if you think it will prove out and want to pay 150 dollars to find out, go ahead, that's your gamble. But it IS a gamble, don't him try to convince you otherwise.
