    Questions About Expo Prices

My sons and I are planning on going to the reptile expo being held in Conroe and I was curious about average prices for UTH and thermometer? I had bought a uth but then returned it because I wanted to see if I could get it cheaper at the expo.

I was also curious to know if anyone knows the average price for black pastels that are sold at expos? I know the average price online but I wondered if that was any different at the expo? All in all though, we're really excited, and have been researching for weeks so it will be nice to finally go to the expo and be around other people who love reptiles.

    Re: Questions About Expo Prices

Price for supply are generally the same the advantage is that you do not pay for shipping.

There is very little profit margin with supply so it's not something you can haggle like you do animals.

Stay away from analogue thermometer and don't forget a reliable thermostat.

Black Pastel are about $50/$75 depending on sex.

How bad was the traffic? And lines for tickets? I'm planning on going tomorrow and since it would be my first reptile expo experience, I have no idea what to expect.😅

Average price of a regular black pastel is about $75. Almost every ball python morph is cheaper at expos (not sure about other snakes, I've only researched bps).

I guess we'll find out together because we're going tomorrow and it will also be my first time at a reptile expo. I've been watching a lot of youtube videos to get an idea, and we'll be going about 2hrs after the doors open.

Thank you all for your replies.

If you see something you want you have to buy it fast or someone else will buy it!

It'll mostly be a large room (think like a large, open school cafeteria) with lots of rows of tables with animals or products. One expo I went to had a tiny outdoors area for some large tortoises, but the other one didn't have any outdoor area (most, if not all, is indoors so the animals don't get too hot). It's busy, but not like "I'm having trouble avoiding people" sort of busy. Traffic, in my experience, wasn't any worse than usual (but I don't usually get there right at opening hours). Ticket line was nonexistent every time I've gone. This picture is one of the first times I went to an expo and you can kind of see behind me that there's not like a TON of people in that isle. If you're claustrophobic or something, there shouldn't be a problem, I think. There will be hand sanitizer all around so you don't have to bring something to wash your hands between holding animals (unless you want to). If you've ever been to something like an anime convention, it kind of has that feel (but less crowded) since people are there to sell after all. Depending who's there, there will be snakes, lizards, tortoises, geckos, spiders, chameleons, feeding products (mice, rats, dubia roaches), frogs, a few supplies like glass tanks. One I went to had a few "extra" exotics like sugar gliders and chipmunks. Saw someone brought a dog once lol (but they had like four rectangular tables laid out, so it kind of just chilled in the middle out of the way). Just about everything is contained in containers or bins except when people want to see something (or if they're showing off like a young burm or something). If you want to hold something, you can just ask and people are pretty nice about it. You can take pictures, and people usually don't mind turning off the overhead lights if you ask. Feeder mice/rats are a helluva' lot cheaper. There's generally lots of kids, too, but no one is really rambunctious.

Hmm... can't think of anything else. There's not really any "surprises" I think. It's about what you'd expect.
