    also common sense; if you know something is loaded with salt, don't bother (sorry, but that includes SPAM), but if you're not sure check the label and you might be surprised at what you find. For your own recommended daily allowance, i would google a calculator that takes your age weight, etc into account, but as a rule of thumb, there is too much salt in just about everything so if you try like hell to avoid it you should still be getting enough.
