I didn't weigh them but I had a large pastel female that was still growing and laying progressively larger(in quantity) clutches every year. I was expecting her biggest clutch yet and she actually laid fewer eggs than previously but they were half again as large as my typical royal eggs. /fishstory

Re: HUGE Eggs!
I had a girl lay a clutch of 6 last year that totaled 697 grams. When they hatched almost everyone baby weighed between 70 and 75 grams. I was pretty excited because all of my clutches prior to that had averaged less than 100 grams per egg, and the hatchlings all ranged between 45 and 60 grams. Congrats on your clutch and I look forward to some pippers in the future.

I have a few girls that never fail and give me eggs in the 95 to 115 grams range ......love those big babies when they come out of the egg too.
This year I have a clutch with 116 grams per egg average.

I love a good fish story! As long as you mean twice as large though, right?

I've been pretty lucky to hatch a few in the 100+ gram range. My previous best was an 11 egg clutch last year that was 1216 grams where 9 of 11 crawled out at 70-80 grams.

This got me thinking, I wonder what the ratio is of egg size to hatching size? I currebtly have a clutch of 5 that was 550g baking. Interested to see when they come out if they'll be big.

Hey Deborah, out of curiosity, what does the "average" hatchling weigh? Length?
