    Unhappy New BP owner, worries.

    Hello guys,

About a month ago Pingu is living with us. When I bought him, the guy told me that he was around 2/3 months old, I think that was not true... because now that in theory he's 3/4 his weight is 60gr... I post some pics, he seams healthy, right?

The firsts days he was really active and exploring everything. After a week he ate his first meal with no problems.
One week after he didn't want to eat but I noticed that he had the eyes blue, so I supposed that he didn't want to eat because he was going to shed. So, after one week more he shed perfectly and at the same time he pooped.

After shedding I tried to feed him, but he refused again, just after this I noticed that he was yawning a lot, and a little clicks when he was breathing, also he started to rest looking up. After some hours I noticed he had some bubbles in the mouth.
So, this morning we went to the vet, she gave me oral antibiotic for ten days.

I rise a little his temperature in the terrarium, till 34C, and I gave him his first antibiotic dose.

Now he is resting in the warm spot.

I hope this antibiotics will be ok for him...

Sounds like he had a respiratory infection. Not uncommon, and with the meds he should be fine. You did the right thing by taking him to the vet.

His age could be accurate, even at a low weight. Some people feed just enough to keep them going, while others will feed appropriately. Also, snakes are like people in the sense that they all grow at different rates. You can't really accurately determine age by weight. The only real way to know for sure is by talking to the breeder.

I would continue the medication as directed by the vet, and offer him a meal every 4 or 5 days until he eats again. Once he starts eating again, I'd offer a meal every 5 or 6 days until he's up to maybe 300g or so, then you could probably cut back to every 6 or 7 days.

Best of luck. He's a pretty boy.

Update: I went to another vet. And herp one. He discovered also he has a problem with the cloaca, he put something to clean it, and when he was cleaning it some bloody part of him went outside also ... He said that it was not good that, but he's expecting that will be fixed next poop, I also have to give him antibiotics for this...

Is somebody has some experience with this?

He said he is a little skinny...I guess for this problems on the evacuation...

So poor Pingu,he has a lot of problems. Hopefully he will get better...

He is quite skinny. What size mice are you feeding him? He can eat one mouse hopper every week.

You can post photos of his enclosure too, to see if everything in there is correct.

He only ate one time home. And it was a mouse hopper, with any problem.

Vet just said that with this problem in the cloaca and the IR is normal that he don't want to eat.
He told me to try to give him a small one next week, because with the treatment he won't eat...

Here is his enclosure, at the right part is the hot spot, now is at 34C (93F) controlled with a thermostat and 60% of humidity. I put some substrate there because I don't like him directly to the glass...

Vet told me also to make him a bath, it seamed he really liked it. after this, he was resting out on the hot spot with the head little up, and it seamed that he was not moving at all when he was breathing... I know some times he takes a deep breaths, but are they use to breath that calm?

I know I sound little paranoid, but today was really stressed with all this things they found on him... :/
