What male for a pastel pie?
When I first had plans for a male, I considered maybe a pastel yellow belly het for pie, but after poking around awhile recently now that money is now making it possible to buy a male sometime in the future, I'm a little stuck on what I would like to do. I have been interested in maybe starting a panda pie project, so I considered a black pastel with YB (I'm curious if Cinnamon Roll might have YB in her, even if the chances are slim), but I do so love the looks of banana balls that I have also considered a banana YB with or without pastel. There is technically a black pastel YB banana, but I have not seen them for sale and suspect they might be a new/rare combination of sorts, so I'm still looking around. In the end I will choose the one I like best as is so important with breeding ball pythons, but I do want to see options just in case I miss something. The piebald gene is my favorite thus far, so I doubt anything can truly go wrong if I can manage a het with some good genes! The thrill of possibly hatching a pie is something I look forward to.
All of this said, Cinnamon Roll still has a year, perhaps more, to go before she can be bred. It might be longer if money does not permit at the time or if she does not seem ready, but I do enjoy researching options in the meantime and am very eager for suggestions to poke around at. c:
Also here's a picture of the little baby, she was hatched January of 2015!

that's the great thing about BP's - the morphs and combos are endless.
it seems like YB is a recurring theme, something u really want. i would go with a YB het Pied combo - either with Enchi, Fire or Pastel. the YB will give u chance to hit Pumpkin Pieds, Another Pastel can yield Killer Pieds, Enchi and Fire Pieds are gorgeous, and u win the lotto if u hit a combo Pied. even if u don't hit a Pied, a combo from these pairings will be hot.
a Banana het Pied is still pretty expensive but maybe prices will drop as your girl matures. maybe u will get more BP's than just another male.
RIP Mamba

Re: What male for a pastel pie?
That's a beautiful pastel pied you have there. I have a male that I bred to a single gene pastel female. Banana / coral glow pied is a nice project too. Grats.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Same boat as me. I have a pastel pied female that I bred to a black pastel het pied male. Black pastel pied and maybe panda pied are the future goals. I'd be interested to see what other possibilities there are besides just my black pastel het pied male. He's a stud though so I hate to replace him. Like Ax01 said, pumpkin pied would be super cool.

Thank you all so much for responding! This community has always seemed so kind, I hope I can make a little more time to interact when things settle down again. ;u;

Very much so! I actually wanted a pumpkin pie initially, and went to her breeder for one, but it turned out the supposed pumpkin was a specter pied and so I searched a bit more and went for pastel. They gave me quite a discount, and Cinnamon Roll has been the best starting ball I could ask for, so no harm done BUT I am curious if she might have YB due to the previous mixup. Her parents were specter male het for piebald and a female super pastel YB pied, so I have this tiny hope that maybe she has it in her. Her interesting color bands (seen easier as a small baby) made me curious too.
Those are all wonderful morphs, I will be sure to look into those! Enchi has interested me for awhile, as has fire, I might have to look closer into them now that I can plan properly again. ;u; I had no idea banana hets are so expensive! I might have to put that one off for awhile longer, or perhaps make my own hets in the meantime, and I do hope I can get more when this job gets going! Then I'll be right back here asking what female I should get

Thank you so much! Banana has interested me since first seeing one in person, I can hardly believe how lovely they are. o: Hopefully you got some nice pastels from that bunch!

Nice job on managing to find one! I've been poking around and not too many black pastels het for pied seem to show, but the ones that do aren't as expensive as I first expected. What sort of hatchies did you manage to get on that pair?

Re: What male for a pastel pie?
Yeah I didn't think they were that hard to find when I started looking last year but I think I got lucky finding such a good breeder. He cost $375 plus shipping so I was happy with the price but if I could go back I might dish out the extra dough for a black pastel pied if I could find one. They're really expensive though.
I actually don't know what babies I'll get yet! My pastel pied just laid eggs for the first time a few days ago. My black pastel male was born late 2014 so he's young but he's feisty so at almost two years old he helped give me five fertile eggs. I'm hoping for lots of pieds but if I get black pastels that are het pied we could stay in touch if you wanted one!

Hopefully the male will help you get some of those pies you want! Congratulations on the clutch, I really hope they give you some wonderful babies! If you happen to have any male black pastel hets in there, I would love to hear about them if you wouldn't mind. It will be awhile before I can buy my next snake, but updates are much appreciated and thank you so much for the offer!
