    Re: First ball python

well i live in san diego and we rarely use the AC so ya my house should be around that temp. Is there anything else you can think of that i am missing : 18 qt tub, heat mat, thermostat, hygrometer/thermometer, temp gun, substrate, water bowl, hiding spot, little plant decor, (prevent-a-mite spray?)

I would get provent a mite and natural chemistry reptile spray. The provent a mite is used in enclosure and you must remove your water bowl and snake before using and let it air out for half hour or so before putting the snake a water bowl back in, natural chemistry reptile spray is for use on your snake. I have used both and they work great. Hopefully you never need to use it but you will be glad you have it on hand if you find mites. Follow instructions exactly, especially for provent a mite.

Everything else sounds good. Get the acurite model 00891 like I mentioned, it will give you all your temps and humidity from the one unit and remember to put the probe under the substrate on the bottom of tub where the uth is. I also recommend getting the medium reptile basics hides which are very dark and secure, if there's room for 2 I would put one for hot and one for cool side but I don't think there's with a 18qt tub but when you upgrade to a bigger enclosure definitely get 2. Get a uth that covers about 1/3 of the tub, if your going with zoo med the 10-20 gallon 6x8 should be good for a 18qt tub. If you get the sterilite 18qt latch box which is 18.13 length x 12.25 width put the 8 inches width wise (12.25) and the 6 inches length wise (18.13) that way you get a third of the tub covered. Makes sure before you put uth on put the thermostat probe sandwiched between the uth and bottom of tub and then raise the thermostat until the acurite tells you a temp of no higher than 94. You should try to get the temp on top of the substrate between 88-90 and if you can't while keeping the temp under the substrate at 94 or less then you can thin out the substrate on top of the uth. Since your saving money from not having to buy a glass tank try to get a quality thermostat like the spyder robotics Herpstat 1 or Reptile basics VE-200.

Sorry for repeating myself from my other replies, I try not to a lot but hopefully it helps you remember when your shopping.

I just bought 2 hides and the 6x11 ultratherm UTH instead of the zoomed. Now do i still tape this one directly on the bottom making contact with the tub with aluminium tape or tape it on the ground of where the tank will be and place the tank over it?

Everything is setup and nice imo. temperatures are perfect 79-81 on the cool side 85-87 on his warm side where his hide spot is. the only thing i dont like is the humidity its fluctuating between 58-60% which i think is abit high. any ideas on how to lower it abit

Your humdity is fine at 58-60. I usually keep mine 60 and bump to 70-75 for shed. Just my opinion but you may want to bump up the thermostat to be 88-90 unless doing that will make under the substrate over 94.

I use photo bucket for pics. After you upload to photo bucket you can use the IMG Link and paste it in and it will show pic.
