Re: Is an AP T8 too overkill?

I set my rhp to 90 and it keeps my cool side 80 on a normal day but if it's hotter then normal it goes up to 82.5. I wouldn't let it get over 83 IMO. If it does just drop the rhp down a couple degrees but if it's always above 83 even with dropping your hot temp to 88 I would buy a lower watt rhp

You can always set up a smaller tub inside the cage if your snake seems stressed or is unwilling to eat. Otherwise I would clutter it up well and see how it goes.

Alright, thank you all. Just waiting for my cage to arrive and testing out temps with my 10 gallon right now.

As long as it's regulated with a thermostat you could have a 200w RHP and it would be fine as long as it's not to big.
When you have it you can try different things to check the temps. And you could make a movable divider and make it a little bit bigger rather than having it right in the middle which would move the cold side further away.

How would you make a movable divider?

I'd get a piece of cardboard to use as a template. Cut the cardboard so it's a tight fit in the cage and then get a piece of plastic or wood or whatever you want to use as a divider.
Use the cardboard template to get it to the size you need.
You could use screws to hold it in place in the vivs. Or get it tight enough so that you don't need anything to hold it into place. Or make a wooden divider and then get a couple pieces of wood that are long enough to to touch the divider and the other side of the vivs at the same time making it impossible for the snake to push the divider out
There are probably hundreds of ways to do it. Just need to look at what materials you have or can get and work around that .
    Good luck

The divider from animal plastics is movable already so you don't have to keep the cage 50/50. You can start at 50/50 and move the divider to 60/40 then 70/30 and so on until your snake is full grown. $20 for a perfect fit movable divider isn't bad.

I've never had a t8 because I live in the UK and no one deals with them here. I would love to have one tho !!
But in a previous post on here about the t8 they said there is a slight groove that the divider goes in and the divider is screwed in so you'd have to keep making holes if that's the case.
Although now that I think about it that might have been a different make not an AP cages.

They give you the option of making it permanent if you want and provide screws but you don't have to do that. You can definitely move the divider, I have a T10 but no divider personally but I have read plenty of t8 threads to know they can be moved. If you read the how to set up PVC cage AP T8 sticky the OP of the threads has dividers and states you can move it.

My 80watt panel takes up 1/2 the t8 or pretty damn near close. You could get the 40 and get another in a year or so. A 40 watt my be enough too if you live in warm area. Summer is coming and won't need to heat as much. I have a t8 with 40s on each side and they barley come on now with the heat out side
