Are you planning on breeding? If so, I'd spend as much as you can on the next snake to get some higher end snakes in your breeding program, the more you spend the more you will break even or make a little money. If not, I'd go for the brightest colors. I really like the fire / pastel mix, very bright yellow. I really like the Axanthics and the Ultramels myself, may pick up some of those myself. How much do you have to spend?

You can get an Axanthic starting around $200:

Ultramels are selling a bit higher, probably starting around $300 or so:

A couple other options, fire + pastel + spider, a really cool looking snake for about the same amount ($235)

If you want to throw down some serious cash and get into something a bit more high end, I've been eyeing the Bamboo lines, these are really cool. Looks like they start about $850:

These are entry level prices. If you get some brighter more colorful snakes the prices go up. Here's a really fancy bamboo for $2,000. If I had the cash this is what I'd get:

Or if you really want just one high end breeder snake you could get a super bamboo for $3,500. Everything you breed this guy with will be bamboo. You'd have to sell your car to buy this snake but in a few years you'd (hopefully) make it all back:

I'm actually just starting out breeding ball pythons. I have six snakes so far and spent about $4,000. I think you'd be better off with just a couple high end snakes, breeding those in a few years, then use that money to buy whatever your heart desires.
