Visual help needed for newbie
Not a newbie to reptiles but a long time since I dipped my toes into royal genetics territory lol
I have been pondering and wondered if anyone can help with pics and stuff please.
First question is what is the difference between ultramel and coral glow. My eyes aren't great and most pictures, I can't tell a clear difference.
2nd question is what defines visually the sugar and calico genes please. Are they so similar in visual aspects that an untrained eye would struggle?
At what point is sugar added or calico added to a name from visual look only?
My newest arrival, a spider labelled as a cinnabee ( parents do confirm cinnabee ) has very very high white sides on her such is what sparked my thinking lol
Thanks k you in advance xxx

There might be some that Iargue that sugar and calico are different lines of the same gene, but I have seen them used interchangeably. Honestly in all the examples I have seen there is no discernable difference, but I will say I am by no means an expert.
As for ultramel compared to coral the latter has more of a purplish tint compared to the brown of the other.

an Ultramel and Coral Glow/Banana are completely different – genetically and visually. an Ultramel is a recessive and looks almost identical to a Caramel. the Coral Glow Banana is a dominant morph (tho some breeders are still trying to prove out a Super form) with high yellows and orange patterning/blushing on a lavender/light background. Coral Glow/Bananas also develop black spots or freckles as they mature and often lose their brightness.
Calico's and Sugars are the same morph, different lines. but alotta peeps just use the term interchangeably. at the same time, alotta peeps like to refer to Calico’s with high white speckling/pixilation as Sugars. i would say prominent white speckling/pixilation would distinguish the two lines.

I don't know why I put ultramel lol. I actually meant coral glow and banana!!
So are both calico and sugar speckled white as opposed to elevated blocks of white? Xx
Thank you xxx

lol, yes, Coral Glow and Bananas are the same morph, different lines. they produce the same combo's. also Calico/Sugar = same combos. it depends on the quality of the Calico/Sugar. some have nice speckling, some have high whites, some have both. i've just seen more speckled examples referred to as Sugars. i guess they look like lil granular pieces of sugar, hence the name.
if u are wondering if your Cinna Bee has Calico/Sugar, i would rather trust the breeder and pairing that produced your BP rather than getting getting assuming something else is there. i ahve two Spider combos - a Dream Bee and a Honey Bee - both with awesome whites and speckling and i know there's no Calico/Sugar there. they would different with the extra gene.
