    Tail first??

    Hi!
I was just wondering if you could all help me confirm something?
Monty is starting to eat it, but today I finally upped his feeding. Before he was on 1 small mouse, but at the pet shop they reckoned he should move up to a bigger size. Today he took his first adult moise, but he took it tail first? At the moment I can't see any problems, but I was just double checking if this is normal? Some people are saying its normal whilst other say that it is and can be fatal to them. For as far as I can see (not much as he has wrapped him self around the mouse) it is half way down him. Should I be worried?
Sorry for such a long post, it's just he hasn't done this before :/

Also, I tried to measure him yesterday (He wouldn't stay still for long) and I gathered he is around 22 inches, and I'm afraid I don't know his weight.

I've found wrong end feeding frequently occurs when prey size is increased. if he's gotten past the hips, it'll most likely go down. don't worry about it.

Sometimes young snakes have trouble figuring out how to swallow prey head first... he'll figure it out eventually! And if he ever takes too long and gives up, you can re-heat it and offer again.

If you're interested in knowing how long your snake is, OWAL has a link to a small measuring tool you can use on your computer. (The site is also a good source of other information.) Just follow the directions on OWAL site and you shouldn't have any problems with wriggly worms moving mid measure.

For the backwards eating, he'll eventually figure it out. Or he'll eat it backwards. I've seen ours do it both ways, though usually the backwards thing doesn't happen often. We even had Blackout fold a rat in half and eat it from the middle once because it was a small leftover that someone else hadn't eaten and her meal had been about 50g short of what she was used to. (Seriously, once she swallowed it, you couldn't even tell she'd folded the thing in half.) Kind of wish I'd gotten a pic of that...all 4 paws, a head and tail all sticking out her mouth.
