    Re: Keurig Coffee Maker

Actually I've seen other options for reusing the k-cups that is really cheap. I find that ordering from Keurig and buying 4 boxes is as cheap as Bed Bath and Beyond. Keurig has 24 cup boxes, and BBB has 18 cup boxes.

I don't like, I'd go with a different brand. I love the k cups, but Keurig, no. You have to use their brand coffee or ones associated with them. Of course there are ways around it but it's a PITA. Plus I've had one break within a couple of months and the second one acts up sometimes. But to me it's mostly the brand thing, it's like having a microwave but only being able to heat food by certain brands in it.

K-cups are definitely a convenience factor in my mind. Just like Nepresso, or Illy Capsules. K-cup machines are made from non fixable parts, and once they go out (which is often enough) they have to be fully replaced instead of just replacing a simple valve or capacitor, the cups themselves are not environmentally friendly, as it adds significantly to the waste pool - another thing to keep in mind. Though, yes you can use the reusable K-cups, I'd point you back to the start where I discussed the fact that the machines are not fixable.

French Press, IMO, tastes better and can be brewed to your particular desire of strength. There's a reason that the best coffees in the world recommend and suggest the use of a French Press for extraction. It just does it better. . .

NOW, I will say, My wife does not like the French press as much. Dirty, gritty some times, and stronger. . . and she doesn't always want to turn on our espresso machine to make espresso, so I got her a coffee pot, and I have to say, this unit makes the best cup of coffee I've had in comparison to other units / k-cups / drip filters. It's a Mr. Coffee, and runs around 60 bucks at Walmart. . . for what its worth.

I tried to find the article, that I believe appeared on VICE, or one of my science daily pages discussing the Keurig and how its "cheaply made" to break over time. But I can't seem to locate it.

But as a true coffee fan, and someone who tries to be eco and budget conscious - I would avoid!

For what it's also worth. It's hard to beat a solid espresso machine if you partake.

I currently work in the specialty coffee industry so I'm interested in what everyone's opinion is on coffee machines and favorite extraction methods.

Personally, I use a V60 and make pour overs.

    Re: Keurig Coffee Maker

I got the Keurig 2.0 for Christmas and I have to say that I love it. Yes, the K cups can get rather expensive but they do have an option where you can make your own favorite brand of coffee. I love coffee so for me the Keurig is an awesome option.

I have had one for a couple of years. I don't use it everyday but it's great when I just want a single cup of coffee.

Honestly I'd recommend it. I used to have one, but I had to leave it behind in california when I moved because I had to move in a hurry and didn't have box space for it. It's so convenient and if you are a home worker/desktop jockey like me, getting up to go to the kitchen every 30 minutes gets kind of aggravating. I had it on my side table next to my desk and kept it with a fresh jug of water to refill the decanter when it got low, and I had a constant supply of fresh single servings of coffee whenever I wanted. I'm thinking about buying a new one honestly!
