    Bp on hunger strike

Ok so I don't want to over react but I'm experiencing my first hunger strike. He hasn't eaten in almost 2 months. He's lost about 15 grams so far. I verified he has no illness, mouth rot, temp issues, or mites. He's 900 grams and just finishing shedding 2 weeks ago. I've tried once every week to feed him and no luck. I feed him frozen small rats. My question is when do I worry and what are some tips to get him to eat? Do I try a live mouse and will that mess up his desire for rats?

15/900*100=1.667% of his body weight lost. That's not a significant amount, nor is 2 months a long fast. I believe the usual advice at this point is to stay with the same food, cut back to only offering every 2 weeks, and try not to worry unless the weight loss goes over 10% (possibly higher), or behavior or health changes.

O ok, thanks for the advice. I'll try every 2 weeks then.

At 900 grams, there is nothing to worry about.
I have a 1200 gram male spider that only eats a couple medium rats a year.
Sometimes he takes them all in one month and other years he spreads them out.

Heck my girl tonight surprised me with a big ole turd. This is surprising because she hasn't eaten anything for around 2 months. She's a pretty healthy girl too so I haven't bothered to weigh her. I personally wouldn't worry unless you start to see him losing lots of weight. You would be surprised how hardy snakes are in reality. And I also would cut the food trying down to once every 2 weeks to once a month. I generally do every 2 weeks to 1 month as that's the timeframe my boas eat so I just buy 1 small rat and see if she wants it, if not, my sunglow gets it.

    Re: Bp on hunger strike

My 2 1/2 year old girl stops eating around December and starts eating again in March. Shes perfectly healthy and happy. Spends the day in her hide, explores a little in the evening. The first time it happened I was worried, now I come to expect it. Its always great when they start eating again.
My 8 month old male eats like hes never seen food before.....like clockwork every Sunday. Takes about 1/2 a second for him to strike. They're all different.
